Honda keys, cut and programmed at your car

Honda Key Replacement in Orlando, FL

Hondas fill the parking garages at Disney, Universal and the I-Drive hotels, and every week someone walks back to a Civic or CR-V with no key. We Do Locksmith sends a technician in a marked van to the car, cuts the blade, programs the chip or the smart fob, and erases the lost key so it cannot start the car. Most Honda jobs are finished at the car in under an hour, and the flat price is agreed on the phone before anyone drives.

Which Honda key do you have?

Model yearsKey typeWhat that means for replacement
Before about 1998Plain metal key, no chipOlder Civics and Accords still running around Orlando take a plain cut key. We cut it from the door lock or the key code, nothing to program, and it is the least involved Honda key we make.
About 1998 to 2012Transponder key, edge-cut bladeA chip in the plastic head has to be registered to the immobilizer. Cutting the blade is quick; the programming happens at the car, and a lost key is removed from memory during the same visit. Remote-head versions add lock buttons to the same key.
About 2013 onward, twist-key trimsLaser-cut HON66 transponder keyAccord, Civic and CR-V switched to a thicker sidewinder blade with the groove down the middle. It needs a laser-cutting machine, which rides in every one of our vans, plus the same on-site programming.
About 2013 onward, push-button trimsSmart key (proximity fob)The fob has to match the frequency and part number for that model year and trim. We bring the right one, pair it at the car, and delete the lost fob. All-keys-lost is done the same way, no dealer visit.

How Honda key programming works

Honda programming runs through the diagnostic port under the steering column. With a working key present, the new key or fob is added alongside it in a few minutes. With every key lost, the technician pulls the key code, cuts the blade or picks the correct fob, puts the immobilizer into learning mode and registers the new key, which clears the missing ones from the car. It is one visit, done where the car sits, from a theme-park garage to a driveway in Winter Garden.

Things to know before you call about a Honda

  • A push-button Honda with a dead fob battery is not a lost-key job. Hold the fob against the start button with your foot on the brake; the car reads the chip through the fob. Swap the coin battery afterward.
  • Online fobs that look identical to yours often carry the wrong frequency or part number for the year and will not pair. If you already bought one, tell the dispatcher; sometimes it works, often it does not, and we bring one that does.
  • After a jump start or a battery that died in the summer heat, an older Honda can stop recognizing a key that worked yesterday. A re-registration fixes that without cutting anything.

Pricing for Honda keys

A plain Honda blade key is the least expensive, an edge-cut chip key or laser-cut key sits in the middle, and a smart fob costs the most because of the fob itself. The dispatcher gives you one flat price for your exact model year on the phone, with no separate trip charge and no evening surcharge, and the car stays where it is.

Honda key questions

Can you make a Honda key in Orlando with no key at all?

Yes. The technician cuts the blade from the door lock or the key code and programs the chip or fob at the car, then erases the lost key. Have your ID and the registration or insurance card ready.

Do Honda smart keys have to come from the dealer?

No. Every Honda smart key sold in the US pairs at the car with locksmith tools. We carry the common fobs in the van and confirm the part for your year and trim before we leave.

I locked the keys in my Honda at a theme park. Can you get to me?

Yes. Tell the dispatcher which garage and level you are on. The technician opens the car without damage; if the keys are inside you are done, and if they are lost we make a new one right there.
