How Jeep key programming works
Every Jeep key programs through the diagnostic port with the four-digit PIN, which we retrieve as an authorized locksmith. On chip-key years that means the Sentry Key module, on FOBIK years the wireless ignition node, on push-button models the RF hub; the tool is different, the outcome is the same. All-keys-lost includes cutting the blade or supplying the fob, programming, and erasing the lost keys. Wrangler JK owners with a single key should add a second while it is cheap.
Things to know before you call about a Jeep
- A rental Wrangler is opened for the renter with ID and the rental agreement. If the key is actually lost, the rental company has to authorize a new one, and we say so on the phone before anyone drives.
- No PIN, no key. Jeep and the rest of the Chrysler family refuse every programming step without it, so ask whoever you call whether they can retrieve it themselves.
- A soft top does not keep the rain out, and a FOBIK or fob that sat in a wet cup holder often fails a day later. Dry it, then call; a shell and contact repair is usually cheaper than a new key.
