A BMW key is matched to the EWS, CAS or FEM and BDC module rather than simply taught through the diagnostic port, which is why the chassis matters more than for almost any other make. The dispatcher asks for the model year and body, checks which module it uses, and tells you whether an on-site key is realistic. Things to know before you call about a BMW
